Welcome
Welcome to the First Annual IEEE Workshop on Curation and Contextualization of Extreme Datasets (AKA Extreme Data Curation 2026)! This workshop brings together a community to explore data curation as a life cycle-spanning work that maintains, preserves, and adds value to data and their computational context at modern extreme scales.
About the Workshop
This workshop brings together researchers and practitioners working on the challenges of curating large-scale, heterogeneous datasets — including data quality, provenance, integration, lifecycle management, and metadata standards. We seek to engage researchers and practitioners working on theoretical foundations, computational models, systems, infrastructure, and application experiences for curation in contemporary data-intensive platforms. Our goal is not to converge on a single rule set for all domains, but to advance shared approaches and transparent, reusable ways for communities to describe conventions, vocabularies, formats, tools, provenance, computational context, and workflows.
Technical highlights include the intersection of information science and associated foundational theories, large-scale data management, HPC and associated data ecosystems, big data infrastructure, and associated benchmarking. The workshop also builds awareness of communitydriven interoperability frameworks and standards across these intersecting areas. Our goal is to promote clearer cross-disciplinary research agendas involving the methods, infrastructures, and interoperability practices needed to support responsible reuse at scale.
